Jared Leto On Why He Never Saw ‘Suicide Squad’

Suicide Squad Jared Leto The JokerJared Leto has confirmed that he never actually saw last year’s supervillain team-up flick Suicide Squad, for which he took on the iconic role of the Joker for.

While promoting his new film Blade Runner 2049, the long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s classic Blade Runner, Leto — opened up about how he doesn’t actually watch his own films. The actor who gave rodents to co-stars and only answered to The Joker on set of the production explained to Syfy Wire that “as soon as you watch it, that’s when it becomes subjective.”

After confirming he never saw Suicide Squad, Leto also revealed he has never seen Dallas Buyers Club — which he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for — and went on to explain why he refrains to watch his own films:

“No, I never did. I just think with watching your own films, it can be too self-conscious of a process. You either like what you did and you’re prone to repeat it, or you didn’t like it, and it can make you self-conscious. I’m not sure how much win there is for me. But I read the scripts, so I know what’s going to happen.”

Directed by David Ayer, Suicide Squad stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne, Viola Davis, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Adam Beach, Jay Hernandez, and Karen Fukuhara. Here’s the official synopsis:

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Suicide Squad is now available on Digital HD, 3D Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray, and DVD.

10 Reasons Jared Leto Is The Worst Joker

Previous1 of 11

Suicide Squad Jared Leto The JokerThe Joker is one of the most iconic characters in fiction. His bombastic schemes, twisted behavior and eerie laugh are the things nightmares are made from. Amazing actors like Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger have brought the Joker to life over the years, and he will continue to grace the big and small screen for years to come.

Jared Leto is another amazing actor who’s been lucky enough to play the Joker. The actor was dealt a poor script in Suicide Squad and wasn’t given a chance to properly shine. Certain aspects of his character were enjoyable, and hopefully he will be better in future renditions, but for now, Leto is considered a disappointment. No matter how far the actor pushed himself to get into character, things just didn’t click for him this time around.
