Jared Leto On Involvement In ‘Suicide Squad 2’: ‘We’ll See What Happens’

Joker Suicide Squad Jared LetoIf you think Jared Leto knows any more about his future as the Joker in the DCEU, you might be wrong — it certainly seems that way at least. In a recent Q&A with Collider, obviously focusing on Leto’s most recent film Blade Runner 2049, the conversation took a brief turn toward potential upcoming projects in Suicide Squad 2 and a Joker/Harley movie.

The Joker character seems to be getting pulled every which way in recent months, from a standalone film with a possible backing from Martin Scorsese (not featuring Leto), to a romantic themed film with Harley Quinn by the guys who brought you Crazy, Stupid, Love, which would have Leto and Margot Robbie reprising their roles from Suicide Squad.

As for Suicide Squad 2? Equally as messy, having had talks with Mel Gibson fall through to then lose Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, Non-Stop) as director after he signed on and then writer Adam Cozad (The Legend of Tarzan) being taken off the project. Now Gavin O’Connor is on as director/writer and Leto has opened up — sort of.

Here’s what he had to say about his involvement in either the Joker/Harley film or the Suicide Squad follow-up:

“A lot of moving parts, we’ll see what happens. I think Gavin is incredibly talented, he seems to be the perfect director for Suicide Squad 2. I think he’s a really gifted filmmaker and I really love his work.”

Leto is definitely on the money when he says there are “a lot of moving parts.” What could be telling is his instant praise of O’Connor (rightfully so) without speaking in any detail on his actual involvement at the Joker in the future.

What do you make of the quote? Could we be getting more news on Leto and his ties to the Joker? Maybe he’s just being coy on subject until then. Or could this mean we may not see Leto in the white make-up for quite some time? Sound off in the comments!

Mel Gibson was one of several directors in contention. Jaume Collet-Serra never signed on to Suicide Squad 2.
