The last film in the The Hunger Games franchise arrives in theaters this month. Ahead of the film’s worldwide release, stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, along with producers Nina Jacobson and returning director Francis Lawrence, sat down for a press junket on Saturday to talk about the series’ final installment.
The Hunger Games movies — based on the Young Adult novels by Suzanne Collins — have grossed more than $2 billion worldwide. In doing so, the series has introduced audiences to one of the best female heroines in Katniss Everdeen, at least according to star Jennifer Lawrence. When asked what Katniss Everdeen means to the world of film heroines, Lawrence provides a definitive answer.
Of course, Scarlett Johansson has been in the MCU since 2010’s Iron Man 2. But with Elizabeth Olsen’s introduction as Scarlet Witch in this year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman coming in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, heroines are becoming more ubiquitous in what has been a male dominated landscape.
Speaking of the MCU, Lawrence was asked about rumors she may be playing Captain Marvel in the MCU along stars like Bradley Cooper and Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy).
You hear that Marvel? Coy as only she can be, Jennifer Lawrence wants in. With this being the final installment of The Hunger Games, she has the time to devote to a new franchise. Lawrence has starred in several movies with Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, Serena) and is starring alongside Chris Pratt in 2016’s Passengers, so she knows these actors well, and jumps at the idea of starring alongside them again in a Marvel Studios film.
