Variety reports Jenny Slate (Zootopia) is in talks to join Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off Venom which stars Tom Hardy in the titular role of Eddie Brock aka Venom.
According to the trades sources, Slate would play a scientist, however, no further character details have been revealed at this time. The actress would join Michelle Williams who is set to play the female lead which is said to be a district attorney and potential love interest to Hardy’s Brock. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Riz Ahmed has also been cast in an undisclosed role.
Sony’s Venom is a standalone Spider-Man spinoff, separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Hardy in the starring role as the reporter turned Spider-Man nemesis, Eddie Brock. While plot details remain under wraps, the film has been confirmed to be an origin story of sorts for Venom.
Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is set to helm the project from a script being written by Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji) and Jeff Pinkner (The Dark Tower). Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are producing.
Venom is currently slated to hit theaters on October 5, 2018. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Venom as we learn it.
