J.J. Abrams Reveals Even More ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Cameos

While it should go without saying, there are spoilers ahead. Read on at your own risk. Just yesterday we learned that Ewan McGregor had a small cameo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens but it seems that Rey’s vision had even more to it than we thought. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, director J.J. Abrams has confirmed that the voices of Ewan McGregor, Frank Oz and Alec Guinness all appear in the film.

The idea of the voices was, we wanted the audience to feel – but not necessarily be presented right in your face — this idea that familiar, Force-strong voices were connecting with her. At least as well as they could. You do hear a little bit of Yoda. You hear Luke yelling out, ‘Nooo!’ from that moment in Empire. And you hear Obi-Wan at the end say, ‘Rey… these are your first steps.’

Is there a chance we could see these characters return again down the line? Wouldn’t count that one out. Abrams then went on comment on these lines being inserted into the film. It seems that in order to use the late Alex Guinness’ voice in the film, they took a piece of dialogue from A New Hope and used the “Rey” part of the word “afraid”. The last piece of advice came from McGregor and Frank Oz actually provided new lines but when it was all said and done they were replaced with ones from The Empire Strikes Back. Pretty cool stuff though, right? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
