Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff admitted they would love to develop an original Harry Potter series and regularly talk to JK Rowling about the possibility.

The Harry Potter franchise has gone through a bit of turbulence as of late with the poor reception to the Fantastic Beasts franchise and JK Rowling’s controversial comments about the transgender community. However, given the steaming wars causing many studios to utilize their biggest IPs, it’s only a matter of time before new Harry Potter content finds its way on HBO Max.

While a 20th anniversary special for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will hit HBO Max on New Year’s Day, Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff shared with The Hollywood Reporter that they would love to do an original series and have frequent discussions with JK Rowling about it:

“We would love to develop more original Harry Potter series, and we regularly talk to JK Rowling and her team. It’s got to be right though. Whatever we do has to be true to the canon, and true to the ethos of the Wizarding World, and who Harry is.”

There were reports earlier this year that WarnerMedia was developing an original live-action Harry Potter series, but it was then later stated by HBO Max chief Casey Bloys in February that no deals were in place.

The next major installment in the Harry Potter franchise will be Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. The upcoming film recently dropped its first trailer for what is planned to be the third film of five from JK Rowling.

Directed by David Yates from a screenplay written by JK Rowling and Steve Kloves, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Callum Turner, William Nadylam, Poppy Corby-Tuech, Jessica Williams, Jude Law, and Mads Mikkelsen.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is currently scheduled for an April 15, 2022 release. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the Harry Potter franchise, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more video content!
