Joaquin Phoenix Eyed For Martin Scorsese’s Joker Origin Movie

Joaquin Phoenix The Joker DC ComicsWarner Bros. may have found its next Clown Prince of Crime.

According to Variety, Joaquin Phoenix is in talks to play the Joker in the Martin Scorsese-produced origin movie currently in development at Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. The studio has apparently already met with Phoenix for the role and he’s agreed to it.

The studio is looking to tap into Scorsese classics such as Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, with the film set in a gritty and grounded 1980s Gotham City. Todd Phillips is attached to direct the standalone piece, which is said to be separate from the DC Extended Universe in an effort to create new and unique storylines to expand the canon.

Phillips is also writing the script with Scott Silver, the man behind the 2002 drama film 8 Mile starring Eminem. The project is rumored to feature a young version of the Joker who was tormented over the permanent smile put on his face.

Suicide Squad Jared Leto The JokerThe Joker is one of the most iconic characters in fiction. His bombastic schemes, twisted behavior and eerie laugh are the things nightmares are made from. Amazing actors like Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger have brought the Joker to life over the years, and he will continue to grace the big and small screen for years to come.

Jared Leto is another amazing actor who’s been lucky enough to play the Joker. The actor was dealt a poor script in Suicide Squad and wasn’t given a chance to properly shine. Certain aspects of his character were enjoyable, and hopefully he will be better in future renditions, but for now, Leto is considered a disappointment. No matter how far the actor pushed himself to get into character, things just didn’t click for him this time around.
