Fans have wondered whether or not Carol Danvers would appear as Captain Marvel in Avengers: Infinity War, even in a cameo fashion. Co-director Joe Russo appears to have raised those hopes again in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, but a statement from Disney suggests that we won’t see the good captain until Avengers 4.
When asked about the approach to the two Avengers movies as a whole, Russo explained that there’s no shortage of girl power involved between them:
“Yeah, we have some great female characters in this. Captain Marvel is in it, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, we have Wakanda is coming in and there’s a whole group of characters that are coming from the Wakandan universe, from the Black Panther universe. Amazingly strong characters, strong-willed characters, and we have the Guardians, and two of the Guardians are daughters of Thanos so there’s a really strong connection to the main villain of the story and I think you’ll see in the film that they’re very pivotal to the storyline and I think the arcs are fantastic so, we’re really really proud of being able to introduce Captain Marvel in this one.”
Sounds like a confirmation that Carol Danvers is in Avengers 3, right? Well, not quite. Slashfilm reached out for Disney for an official answer about whether or not Captain Marvel is in the first of the two movies, and the answer they got was a big, fat “no”. This seemingly rules out the possibility of a post-credits cameo, so it seems like we won’t be seeing anything with the character until the first trailer for the character’s solo outing drops — presumably, with this July’s Ant-Man & The Wasp.
