Todd Phillips (The Hangover) and Scott Silver (8 Mile) may be putting the finishing touches on the upcoming Joker origin movie currently in development at Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment.
According to Variety reporter Justin Kroll, Phillips and Silver are set to deliver the current draft to the studio next week. Although there is no timeline on the development of the project, Phillips and Silver were confirmed to already be writing the script when the news of the film broke last month, making it promising that the film could begin filming as early as next year.

In addition to co-writing the script, Phillips is set to direct the film as well as produce it alongside legendary director Martin Scorsese. the studio is looking to tap into Scorsese classics such as Taxi Driver and Raging Bull as they dial back the clock and set the film in a gritty and grounded 1980s Gotham City.
The studio is reportedly eyeing Leonardo Dicaprio to step into the shoes of the clown prince of crime. the film is rumored to feature a very young Joker who was bullied with a permanent smile put on his face. DC’s Joker standalone film will be the first film separate from the DC Extended Universe, under a new banner at the studio in an effort to create new and unique storylines to expand DC canon.

10 Reasons Jared Leto Is The Worst Joker
The Joker is one of the most iconic characters in fiction. His bombastic schemes, twisted behavior and eerie laugh are the things nightmares are made from. Amazing actors like Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger have brought the Joker to life over the years, and he will continue to grace the big and small screen for years to come.
Jared Leto is another amazing actor who’s been lucky enough to play the Joker. The actor, who’s set to star in the upcoming Blade Runner 2049, was dealt a poor script in Suicide Squad and wasn’t given a chance to properly shine. Certain aspects of his character were enjoyable, and hopefully he will be better in future renditions, but for now, Leto is considered a disappointment. No matter how far the actor pushed himself to get into character, things just didn’t click for him this time around.
