Jon Bernthal’s breakout performance as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, in Daredevil season 2 was so well received by audiences and critics alike that little more than a year later he was front and center in his own spinoff series on Netflix. The Punisher has since received accolades of its own, firmly establishing itself in the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So naturally, there was going to be a season 2.
Not much is currently known about the soon-to-be-filmed season, but there have been rumors of what showrunner Steven Lightfoot is adapting from the comics, namely The Slavers story arc in where Frank Castle accidentally stumbles across an underground sex trafficking ring in New York City. Heavy stuff.
Whether or not these rumors turn out to be true, Jon Bernthal has his own ideas of what he would like to see happen down the line in The Punisher. While speaking to a crowd on the 2018 Walker Stalker Cruise last month, Bernthal was asked which characters he would like to see appear on The Punisher. He replied:
“Barracuda. I’d like to see Barracuda. I’d really like to get back in with [Vincent] D’Onofrio, with Kingpin. I mean, there’s so many twisted characters.”
Barracuda and Kingpin. Both heavy hitters in a literal sense. Barracuda is a feared gangster turned assassin in the comics and has had some brutal run-ins with The Punisher. The Kingpin, of course, is mostly Daredevil’s nemesis, but who could forget the powerful scene in Daredevil season 2 when Frank Castle and The Kingpin came face to face in prison. These two formidable titans ended their meeting with a promise: the next time they meet, only one of them will walk away.
Chances of us seeing The Kingpin make an appearance in season 2 of The Punisher are slim to none; Daredevil season 3 has the villain poised to return as a major threat and Vincent D’Onofrio’s performance as Wilson Fisk is too powerful to potentially kill him off in a second meeting with The Punisher. Barracuda, on the other hand, has a bigger chance of showing up as a villain in The Punisher‘s second season, with Lightfoot having dropped the character’s name himself on a separate occasion from Bernthal.

10 Things We Learned From Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’
Black Panther is an integral part of Marvel Comics and it was only a matter of time before he debuted in on the big screen. The character was first introduced in Captain America: Civil War, making an immediate impact and as a standout in the film. Now, close to two years later, the first Black Panther feature film has hit theaters, and the shining gem has become another rousing success for Marvel Studios.
Though Black Panther is, for the most part, a standalone film, it’s still part of a larger cinematic universe. That means things — both big and small — might have reverberations in future films and not just Black Panther sequels. T’Challa and his world have made an impact and are here to stay for the foreseeable future. Take this as your warning, if you haven’t seen the film yet then you might want to come back afterward as there will be massive spoilers ahead.
