The Hollywood Reporter has revealed Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Brigsby Bear, Spider-Man: Homecoming) has joined the first-ever Transformers spinoff Bumblebee as the male lead, starring alongside Hailee Steinfeld.
Details on Lendeborg Jr.’s role are still under wraps along with the plot but the film has been confirmed to be a prequel which will focus on Bumblebee in the 1980s. Lendeborg Jr. joins Steinfeld as a tomboy that holds a job as a mechanic after school who forms a connection with the lovable fan favorite Autobot. When their lives are interrupted by evil Decepticons, the two have to figure out how to manage without Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots.
Kubo and the Two Strings director and CEO of Laika Studios Travis Knight is set to direct the project from a script penned by Christina Hodson (Shut In). Transformers director Michael Bay will return to produce Bumblebee with Steven Spielberg and Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, as well as Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis.
As of this moment, the film does not yet have a release date but Paramount is targeting a release sometime during 2018. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on Bumblebee as we learn it.
