A significant reason why many of us love the classic Disney films, both animated or live-action, is undoubtedly the memorable music and songs. Among the many talented writers and composers to have provided classic tunes for Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios, perhaps the best known are Richard Sherman and his brother Robert. Together they wrote some of Disney’s best and most enduring songs for classic films including Mary Poppins, The Aristocats, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and of course, The Jungle Book. Now, Comicbook.com has released a behind-the-scenes extra from the upcoming 3D Blu-Ray release of the live-action Jungle Book which focuses on Richard Sherman’s return to provide new lyrics to one of his most popular songs.
One of the special features for the upcoming 3D release of The Jungle Book takes a look at how Richard Sherman was recruited by director Jon Favreau to write new lyrics for the classic song “I Wanna Be Like You”, sung by the orangutan King Louie in the original animated film.
The video also reveals that while the song was sung by actor Christopher Walken, who plays King Louie in the live-action/CGI version, Richard Sherman recorded his own performance of the new version for Walken to use as a reference. The end result is a more menacing version of the original song that fans may surprised to see is remarkably similar to the delivery ultimately given by Walken.
The Jungle Book features the voice talent of Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johansson, Giancarlo Esposito, Christopher Walken and stars Neel Sethi as Mowgli.
The Jungle Book 3D Blu-Ray Collector’s Edition will be available in stores on November 15, 2016.
