‘Justice League’: Dynamics Between Villains Revealed In New Excerpt

Justice League Trailer Amazon Parademon WarEarlier this month, there was a report that the relationship between Darkseid and Steppenwolf would be changed from the comics in the upcoming Justice League movie.

Now, via a feature in Hollywood Magazine, we have confirmation that that will not be the case. In the comics, typically Steppenwolf has been portrayed as Darkseid’s uncle, as well as a member of Darkseid’s Elite. Justice League will be keeping that relationship the same, unlike the previous rumors suggested:

“The uncle of the universe’s greatest villain, Darkseid, and a member of his elite force, Steppenwolf survived a battle with Doomsday. That should tell you just how powerful he is. Aside from his strength and near-immortality, he’s also an expert tactician and wields a vicious electro-axe that can cut through just about anything.

Steppenwolf’s primary role is as the leader of the parademons, the storm troopers who seek to destroy in the name of Darkseid. His primary mission is to serve his nephew, and his status as the main villain in Justice League suggests the scope of the threat facing Earth, as well as the inevitable appearance of Darkseid himself.

Irish star Ciaran Hinds plays the role in the movie, though he will appear through the use of motion-capture technology. According to the actor, in the film, Steppenwolf is old, tired, and trying desperately to get out from under his servitude to his nephew.”

This excerpt gives us a bit of a glimpse at what the dynamic between these two characters will be in the film, as Steppenwolf will be playing the role as the main villain over Darkseid, who will most certainly make his presence known as well. We have already seen the parademons in the trailer for the film, and it is clear that under his command, Steppenwolf will be aiming to make an impact.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Amber Heard, Jeremy Irons, J.K. Simmons, Willem Dafoe, Connie Nielsen, Julian Lewis Jones and Ciarán Hinds.

Justice League will be released in theaters on November 17, 2017.
