Jurassic World 2 has just made a pretty exciting addition to its cast. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that The Get Down star Justice Smith has joined the sequel, but the report doesn’t provide any details about his role.
J.A. Bayona is directing the sequel from a script by Colin Trevorrow — who helmed the first movie — and Derek Connolly. Plot details are being kept under lock and key, but we know that Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be back.
Smith, Pratt and Howard will be joined by Toby Jones and Rafe Spall. Producer Frank Marshall recently teased that B.D. Wong will also reprise his role as Dr. Henry Wu, though that has yet to be confirmed. Production is set to begin next Spring in England.
Bayona has previously described Jurassic World 2 as a much darker movie than the first one, comparing it to The Empire Strikes Back and The Wrath of Khan:
“Obviously, when you have Chris Pratt it will also be very funny. But it will be darker: it is a second step in a trilogy, and the second step is always dark like in The Empire Strikes Back or The Wrath of Khan.”
Jurassic World 2 opens in theaters on June 22, 2018.
