Justin Lin In Talks To Direct The Next Two ‘Fast And Furious’ Films

Fast and Furious Vin Diesel Dwayne JohnsonAfter all of the recent family drama surrounding the future of the Fast & Furious saga, it seems like Universal Studios is finally back on track to deliver the next two installments of their most valuable franchise. Vin Diesel took to Facebook Live yesterday to announce that Justin Lin, director of four previous Fast & Furious films, is seemingly back in the director’s chair after sitting out the last two films. James Wan took over directoral duties for Furious 7, while F. Gary Gray stepped in to helm this year’s billion-dollar hit The Fate of the Furious.

With the continued box-office success that these films have had, it comes at no surprise that Universal wanted to lock in a director for the ninth (and possible tenth) films that the actors and fans are already familiar with. Lin’s Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6 steered these movies from street-racing high jinks to the action-filled heist adventures that they are today.

Diesel’s update confirmed that another familiar face, Jordana Brewster, is set to make her on-screen return in the next film. She was previously written out following Furious 7 and the departure of Paul Walker’s character. According to Diesel, “You’re about to see [Brewster] in the upcoming chapters of the Fast universe.”

While the full cast for Fast & Furious 9 has yet to be announced, expect to see the likes of Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jason Statham, Nathalie Emmanuel and Jordana Brewster. The films is set to open in theaters on April 10, 2020.

Previous1 of 11

Audiences have known that the Rock is playing Black Adam for years, but Shazam (a.k.a. Captain Marvel) still hasn’t been cast. Even though the movie has a director and is set to begin filming early next year, the title role is empty.

Plot details are still essentially non-existent except for the fact that Black Adam will not appear in this movie. Regardless, director David Sandberg, who just finished work on Annabelle: Creations, announced the start of pre-production at the end of August.

Rumors may be swirling online about one actor or another being up for the role, but as of now no one is the designated front runner. This role, which has huge potential to become a major franchise once the character is given a bigger spotlight, is still open for the taking.

With that said, hit Next to find out about 10 actors who should play Shazam!
