Last night we heard a little bit from Kevin Feige about the future connections between Marvel’s films and television. While speaking at the same event for the home release of The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, the head of Marvel Studios also had some comments on the addition of a certain wall crawler to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the “great purpose” that he would serve beyond his appearance in next year’s Captain America: Civil War.
Feige commented that it’s “not about when you show up, it’s about what you do once you’re there” in regards to the where the character has been up until now seemingly confirming that he has been active for a small period of time. He also revealed that Marvel has always had a plan ready in case they got the character but also a contingency plan ready to go if things didn’t work out.
Feige then went on to state that the “most important thing” for the studio when it comes to the property though is “relaunching Spider-Man in his own standalone movie with his own storylines that fits into this universe. That is job number one for us. The connectivity is great, but it doesn’t drive the train.” In regards to the characters appearance in Captain America: Civil War and just how big of a role the character has in the film, he said the following:
All very exciting comments, wouldn’t you agree?
We’ll first meet the new Spider-Man when Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6, 2016.
