Kevin Feige Wants Ryan Coogler Back For Potential ‘Black Panther’ Sequels

Black Panther Chadwick Boseman Ryan CooglerIn just over a day, Marvel Studio’s Black Panther will be released in theaters worldwide. It has been a movie decades in the making, and the anticipation for it is palpable. Already, Black Panther has become the top-selling superhero movie of all time in terms of ticket pre-sales. Charitable organizations, individuals attached to the film, and even a DC Comics fan group have all raised money to buy out movie theaters for children of color to go and see themselves be represented in a superhero film in a way that hasn’t been done before.  Much like last year’s Wonder WomanBlack Panther marks a huge moment in cinematic history.

With extremely positive early reviews, Marvel Studios seems to have another sure fire hit on their hands. A hit, thanks to its stellar cast and director Ryan Coogler. Speaking to Variety, Marvel Studios head honcho, Kevin Feige had nothing but praise for the director of the film, saying: “I’m very glad this movie wasn’t made in 1992 because Ryan Coogler might not have been born.”

When asked about potential Black Panther sequels, Feige expressed interest in bringing Coogler back to the director’s chair, answering “Absolutely” when directly asked if he’d want him back. On the subject of a sequel, Feige remained optimistic if also a bit noncommittal:

“We always say we work on one movie at a time. If you have any good ideas, put it in the movie you’re making. If you don’t, you might not be able to make another one. That said, Panther has been around for more than half a century in the comic books and there are many, many stories to tell.”

While that seems like a non-answer, Chadwick Boseman is confirmed to appear in at least five movies as Black Panther, so it is a safe bet that we will be getting at least one sequel. What Black Panther stories would you like to see adapted to the big screen? Sound off in the comments below!

Black Panther is directed by Ryan Coogler, and stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita N’yongo, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Sterling K. Brown, Angela Basset, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis, and John Kani.

Black Panther opens on February 16, 2018.
