It’s taken a number of years but it’s finally time for The Wasp to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Initially, the character was set to debut in 2012’s The Avengers when director Joss Whedon thought Scarlett Johansson wouldn’t be available for filming. However, these plans were ultimately scrapped and neither of the shrinking founding members of the Avengers made an appearance. Though the character did make her live-action debut in 2015’s Ant-Man, it wasn’t much more than a cameo.
Following Ant-Man, there were plans to have Evangeline Lilly suit up in Captain America: Civil War, but those too were scrapped to give the character the proper introduction she deserves. In a few short weeks, the character will finally get her time to shine as Evangeline Lilly suits up as the co-lead in the upcoming Ant-Man And The Wasp. Speaking with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige at the press junket for the film, I asked what it was like to finally see The Wasp in action.
“It was pretty great. I mean, the first few times were just costume fittings of her in a helmet with the outfit. And even without the wings it was amazing. Then when you get into the stunt work and seeing that kitchen scene cut together for the first time. It was amazing. It was everything we knew that she, not just Evangeline but the character of Hope, could be. And fulfilling the promise of “It’s about damn time” which she says at the end of the last movie.”
Having seen the film already, I can tell you that The Wasp does not disappoint. Are you excited to finally see the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments section below.
