Kevin Smith Gives His Thoughts On ‘Suicide Squad’

Kevin Smith attended the premiere of Suicide Squad, was able to meet director David Ayer and is now giving out his thoughts on the superhero team-up film.

Smith took to Facebook and wrote out a detailed post about what he thought of Squad.

“Well I think he made magic and did ‪#‎dccomics‬proud. The ‪#‎Squad‬ movie doesn’t look like any other comic book flick I’ve ever seen. The periodic use of both ‪#‎Batman‬ and the ‪#‎joker‬ as background characters instead of the usual leads was thrilling and felt like our first real glimpse at an interconnected ‪#‎dceu‬. The cast is top notch but Harley, as expected, steals the show. The ‪#‎jokerandharley‬ beats are simply wonderful for a longtime fan to watch and make you immediately wanna see the all-Harley movie they already announced.”

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Starring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Karen Fukuhara, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood and Cara Delevingne, Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5, 2016.

Yes, but s.s. pales in comparison to the cinematic genius of CHASING AMY and DOGMA.

  • Carl

Notice how he didn’t say anything about the movie itself being good. Kevin Smith is just being political here because he works with WB/DC on the Flash TV show now.

I hope he gives a more candid opinion on his Fatman on Batman podcast.

    • Star-Lord

Or maybe he is no sheep and he liked it. Ever think of that ?

      • Carl

Nope. It doesn’t make you a sheep to dislike something if it’s bad. He would have said more good things about the movie if he really did like it. He had a lot of problems with BvS too.

        • Darthmanwe

Knowing who and what Kevin Smith is, how he publicly says he likes BvS and yet not afraid to rag on the deficiencies of the film every other podcast, it’s safe to say he’s not being political.

In fact, I don’t think he possesses the ability to be THAT political. He’s a straight up nerd, and most of you faux-nerds can’t come close to his level of knowledge and fandom, so I think he is being genuine.

        • alen araujo

          But have U seen it?

          • Carl

Not yet, so I don’t know if it’s good or bad.

          • SAMURAI36

Of course not. He’s just gonna find dumb reasons to passive aggressively hate on it.

          • alen araujo

I don’t think so. For myself personally. Just because I don’t LOVE something off the bat doesn’t mean it’s a burning Trash fire.
I can still recall life before the net.
Sometimes things have to grow on you a bit.
I know how that sounds but I wasn’t born into instant gratification age.
            Can’t wait to see it.
And he has come around on BVS.

      • Zarathos No Daimaōh

you gotta admit that something feel off , unless i’m paranoid . He is much more forthcoming on his opinion on other stuff . Not saying he did not like it , and i personally expect to have a blast … but he’s quite vague and seems indeed “political” Has been since his revised takes on BvS

    • SAMURAI36

      Yes, because him saying:

Throwaway moments made me so happy (like Katana and her Soultaker sword) but this flick as a whole had me smiling the whole time. Thanks to her name, my kid @harleyquinnsmith_ was already on board for this movie – and she loved it (like LOVED it). I’ll be heading back to see it again tonight so expect a brand new #FatManOnBatman review soon.

So yeah, all of this sounds like he didn’t like the film. What an idiot you are.

      • Carl

Let’s wait and see. I listen to his podcast and his talk about his 1st viewing of BvS sounded like he didn’t like it but didn’t want to full on say that. You can’t have that many problems with a movie and still like it. He’s definitely a fanboy when it comes to this stuff.

Why do you always lower yourself to base insults? Can’t you just have a conversation? Don’t act like there is no chance that Kevin Smith is purposely not trying to bash DC films. You do accuse reviewers of bias all the time.

        • SAMURAI36

You get called an idiot, because you seem to lack basic reasoning skills.

I don’t think you read Kevin’s statement in its entirety. There is absolutely no indicator that he didn’t like it. True, he gave his views on BVS right off the bat, but he didn’t mince words about it. Nothing he’s said thus far indicates that with SS.

It seems like you are hoping for him to dislike SS, so that you can feel validated in not liking it yourself.

You like to call him a “Fanboy” (and so what if he is? Aren’t you a Marvel Fanboy? You defend every single thing they do), but so what if he is? What he eats, don’t make you $#!+.

          • Carl

So you are a jerk and an idiot then. Got it.

Did you see SS last night and think it was amazing, great, fantastic or awesome? There is clearly no other possibility for your garbage opinion on it.

I like Kevin Smith but I wish he didn’t do the bug-eyed look for EVERY SINGLE PHOTO taken of him.

Like him, I’m also really looking forward to the Harley movie, whatever it ends up being. I HOPE it’s Gotham City Sirens with Katana, Poison Ivy, Batgirl, maybe Huntress and just maybe Catwoman? That would be incredible.
