Kevin Smith has been a great addition to the line of directors that have come on and worked on The CW’s DC TV shows for the past year, starting with The Flash. After directing a late episode in Season 2, Smith returned to helm one in Season 3 with the “Killer Frost” episode back in the fall. Now he has also joined the Last Daughter of Krypton as he directed the mid-season premiere of Supergirl, which airs this coming Monday, and he is set to return for episode 17.
In a recent interview, Smith was asked about if he would ever be interested in maybe taking part of the epic 4-show crossovers that have become an annual event on The CW. Last month featured the CW heroes fighting the Dominators and with the shows now renewed for the 2017-2018 TV Season, you can definitely expect more of those crossovers. Smith revealed that he had already expressed interest to Andrew Kreisberg (show-runner and executive producer on all four shows) that he would love to be involved in future crossovers at any capacity possible.
“If they ask me?. I put in my request to [executive producer Andrew] Kreisberg already, dude. After I watched their crossover, I said, ‘Please, dude, please, next year, just give me a taste of that crossover. I just want to be involved in one of them. I don’t care which one.’ They look like a nightmare to shoot, I’ll be honest with you. I did the ‘Killer Frost’ episode [of The Flash] right before they went into the crossovers, and the crossover schedule, you’re talking about four different shows where you’re swapping performers and characters and stuff like that. It’s a nightmare on all the AD’s, as they have to try to figure out how to make this all work. That being said, look at the end results, dude. That was absolutely thrilling to watch all four of those shows cross over….I’m asking, I’m asking. I don’t know if they’ll let me but believe me, I’ve already put in the request. I said, ‘Whatever it is next season, whatever the crossover is, even if it was The Death of Kevin Smith, I want to be involved somehow.'”
“Supergirl Lives” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, V) (HDTV)
KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS; ROULETTE RETURNS — Kara (Melissa Benoist) is moved by the story of a missing woman named Izzy (guest star Harley Quinn Smith) and decides to investigate despite Snapper Carr’s (guest star Ian Gomez) order to leave it alone. Kara takes Mon-El (Chris Wood) with her to the last place Izzy was seen and the duo find themselves thrust through a portal to another planet, Slaver’s Moon, where the downtrodden are sold as slaves. The leader of the trafficking ring is none other than Roulette (guest star Dichen Lachman). To make matters worse, Slaver’s Moon has a red sun, which means Kara and Mon-El are stripped of their powers and stuck on the planet with no way home. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Alex (Chyler Leigh) blames herself for Kara’s disappearance, fearing she’s become too focused on her new relationship with Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) and too complacent in watching out for her sister. Kevin Smith directed the episode with story by Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Eric Carrasco & Jess Kardos (#209). Original airdate 1/23/2017.”
Supergirl returns with new episodes on Monday, January 23 at 8/7c on The CW. Make sure to check back at Heroic Hollywood after every single episode of Season 2 for our weekly reviews.
