A brand new TV spot for Warner Bros.’ The Lego Batman Movie gives us our first look at Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon.
At least, that’s the position we all know him to have in the DC universe, but as stated in this spot (along with another one which you can check out below), Barbara Gordon (voiced by Rosario Dawson) will be taking over that role in this film. It looks like Jim’s still working for the GCPD from what we see in his brief appearance here, so the real question is, why is there a need for a replacement? Does Jim retire, or is it something more serious? Probably more the former rather than the latter, considering this is supposed to be a kid-friendly movie.
The design of James Gordon appears to be in line with the classic version of the character that we’re all familiar with from the comics or Batman: The Animated Series. It is still unknown at the moment, however, who actually voices the role of Batman’s long-time ally in the film. The character only has one brief line in the spot, though, so maybe we’ll be able to figure it out if he has more dialogue in a later TV spot/trailer. Or Warner Bros. could just tell us who’s voicing him.
The Lego Batman Movie hits theaters February 10, 2017.
