Many were surprised when directors of the smash hit The LEGO Movie Phil Lord and Chris Miller decided to not step behind the camera for the sequel but it looks as if the dynamic duo will be coming back in another way. In an interview with Collider, producer Dan Lin revealed that Lord and Miller would be returning to rewrite the script.
Both Lin and Chris McKay – also a producer on the film – were asked where the sequel picked up after the events of the first film. That’s when Lin announced that Lord and Miller would be returning to rewrite the script, as well as divulging some plot details:
“We are going to The LEGO Movie 2. The team is all back together, so it’s [Phil] Lord and [Chris] Miller, myself and Chris McKay. Mike Mitchell is the new voice who’s coming in to direct the movie. Chris and Phil are rewriting the script right now, but we’re in production. We’re picking up where the first movie left us, where the Duplo have now come and they’re attacking Bricksburg. It’s several years later, and you’re going to see the result of that.”
Director of the Dreamworks Animation hit Trolls, Mike Mitchell, is set to direct the project. Chris Pratt, star of the original film is confirmed to return to voice the character of Emmett once again however no other cast members have been announced yet.
