Box Office: ‘Logan’ Scores Huge Friday Opening

The good news just keeps on coming in for Fox’s latest X-Men film. After securing a whopping 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and receiving great reviews from fans, Logan is on its way to make over $72 million (via The Hollywood Reporter) stateside this weekend after making at least $30 million on Friday. Friday’s sum includes the $9.5 million the film made on Thursday-night early showings.

It’s interesting to note that this is the first X-Men film to be rated R, and despite that, the film has managed to make more than the previous solo Wolverine film. The Wolverine made about $4 million in Thursday showings and managed to secure $53 million for its stateside opening weekend. Guess R-rated movies work, huh?

It was also revealed today that star Hugh Jackman almost stopped playing the character after the negatively received X-Men Origins:Wolverine.

“In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.”

We absolutely adored Logan for its dark narrative, emotional weight, and performances.

Directed by James Mangold, Logan stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and Dafne Keen

Logan opens in theaters today.
