Logan, the final installment of the Wolverine film series, has finally hit theaters and fans will be able to bid farewell to Hugh Jackman’s incarnation of the titular character. While some will find the experience bittersweet, it appears many fans could not wait for the official Friday opening as the film’s Thursday night previews earned an impressive $9.5 million.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Logan‘s opening night earnings surpassed both the $8.2 million opening of the previous entry in the franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse, and the second installment of the Wolverine standalone films, which earned $4 million in preview screenings.
The film opens opposite Octavia Spencer’s The Shack, a faith-based adaptation of William P. Young’s novel of the same name, which earned $850,000 the same night.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Logan is projected to gross over $70 million this weekend.
