The arrest of Kang actor Jonathan Majors has been a hotly talked about issue heading into Loki season 2, where fans will see his return as Victor Timely. A Marvel Studios producer recently revealed why they chose not to recast the actor, as well as revealed that the Disney Plus series made MCU history.

Jonathan Majors was arrested earlier this year on charges of assault against his at-the-time girlfriend. This sparked debates across the internet on whether he should be recast as Kang in the MCU, especially as he was set to have a starring role as Victor Timely in Loki season 2. According to executive producer Kevin Wright, they wanted to see how things played out before making a decision:

“No,” Wright answered when asked if he considered changing the show following Majors’ arrest “And that mainly came from — I know as much as you do at the moment. It felt hasty to do anything without knowing how all of this plays out.”

In the same interview, Kevin Wright also revealed that Loki season 2 also made Marvel Studios history. According to the executive producer, the Disney Plus show is the first project in the MCU to be completed without additional photography:

“This is maybe — not maybe — this is the first Marvel series to never have any additional photography,” Wright explained. “The story that is on screen is the story we set out to make. We went out there with a very specific idea of what we wanted this to be, and we found a way to tell it in that production period. It’s very much what’s on-screen on Disney Plus”

Only time will tell if Jonathan Majors will remain as Kang the Conqueror in the MCU. It’s possible the tides will turn against him in his court case and Marvel Studios will have no choice but to recast him for future projects. Though for now, fans can look forward to spending some quality time with him in Loki season 2.

Who else is attached to Loki season two?

Tom Hiddleston is spearheading the cast of Loki season two as the titular God of Mischief. The cast also includes Owen Wilson, Jonathan Majors, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Tara Strong, Eugene Cordero, Rafael Casal, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Ke Huy Quan and Neil Ellice.

Eric Martin replaced Michael Waldron as the head writer of Loki for its second season. Martin and Waldron also serve as executive producers on the series alongside Tom Hiddleston, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. Benson and Moorhead directed the majority of the episodes for the upcoming season.
