Many have speculated that Luke Evans would be cast as James Bond, but the actor is reluctant to take the license to kill. It was only recently revealed that Daniel Craig would return as 007, but during the period of time where he stated he wouldn’t, fans were eager to see Evans take on the role.
In fact, GQ readers voted for Evans to take the role of James Bond once Craig had left the franchise, and he was reportedly a fan favorite to replace Craig on an international shortlist. Despite everyone’s eagerness for him to take on the mantle, Evans discussed why he most likely wouldn’t take the role when speaking with ScreenRant:
“I think it would be an honor, but it’s a big job stepping into the boots of someone like Daniel Craig who was brought on [and] elevated him to a level which has never been. It’s an extraordinary franchise and incredible role but whoever takes on the role after Daniel Craig has got a job on his hands. So yeah, it’s attractive, but it also doesn’t come without its trepidation – it wouldn’t be an easy thing to do. You know what I mean, though? It takes so much, you know? You’ve got to create your fanbase, all that stuff’s goes on before filming. Yeah. Who knows? It wouldn’t be an easy thing to take over that role, although it is a fantastic character.”
While Evans understands how great it would be to take on the role, he’s also aware that it’ll be a daunting task that can take up a chunk of his life. It’s more than likely Evans will not get the role, as by the time James Bond 25 rolls around, he’ll be too old for the role, but still, fans can wish for him to take over Craig.
The next James Bond picture is set to hit theatres on November 8, 2019. Daniel Craig is set to reprise his role, though plot details or a director have not been announced.
