Mahershala Ali suits up as Wesley Snipes’ Blade successor for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a new piece of fan art.
During this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige concluded the Marvel Studios Hall H presentation by inviting two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali on stage. In a surprise announcement, Kevin Feige and Mahershala Ali then confirmed the the actor will play Blade in a reboot of the franchise.
The Blade reboot announcement was welcomed by most, but some were disappointed to hear Wesley Snipes was being replaced, especially considering the actor had expressed a willingness to work with Marvel Studios on a new take for the character. Digital artist Bosslogic has shared a stunning piece depicting Mahershala Ali as Blade, offering fans a hint of what he might look like as Wesley Snipes’ successor for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Full details on Mahershala Ali’s Blade reboot are currently unknown, though Kevin Feige has confirmed that the reboot won’t be part of Marvel Studios’ Phase 4. The project is said to have come about after Mahershala Ali called Marvel expressing his interest in Blade following his Academy Award win for his performance in 2018’s Green Book.
In Marvel Comics, Blade is also known as Eric Brooks, the half-human and half-vampire master martial artist whose mother was killed by a vampire during his birth. Since then, Blade has mastered his own fighting style to take on various types of monsters and rid the world of vampires. Wesley Snipes first portrayed the iconic hero in 1998’s Blade and returned for the first sequel directed by Guillermo del Toro before making what is now his final appearance as the character in David S. Goyer’s Blade Trinity.
