The upcoming X-Men off-shoot film, New Mutants, has been in various stages of development for the past few years. However, it appears the movie is set to finally begin in production later this year. As a result of this, we should expect some casting announcements within the coming months. Interestingly, one of the biggest rumours of last year was the involvement of both Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy. While it is still yet to be announced, it appears the New Mutants director, Josh Boone, has confirmed the involvement of Williams and the role she will be playing.
In a tweet made earlier today, Boone stated: “Wolfsbane by Mid-World’s very own @AshleyRGuillory @Maisie_Williams.” Uproxx first reported this rumour back on March 31st, 2016. The website also revealed that both James McAvoy and Alexandra Shipp should reprise their roles as Professor X and Storm, respectively. Now, we have not heard much about Shipp’s involvement, but during press junkets for Split, McAvoy and Taylor-Joy did reference the upcoming film, and Xavier’s participation in the story. Comingsoon.net also reported that Fault In Our Stars and Paper Towns star, Nat Wolff, is also the frontrunner to portray Cannonball.
However, back to Williams. If the rumour, and tweet is to be believed, Williams will portray Wolfsbane in the upcoming film. You can check out the tweet below:

So, with a cast that could potentially include the likes of McAvoy, Taylor-Joy, Shipp, Williams and Wolff, it appears this X-Men movie could be one of the series’ best? Certainly looks that way. The film is set to be directed by Josh Boone, based on a screenplay by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber.
New Mutants has no scheduled release date, but expect it to drop sometime in 2019.
