A new report claims that Craig Zobel is joining the DC Universe thanks to HBO Max’s Penguin series.

According to DiscussingFilm, Mare Of Easttown helmer Craig Zobel is reportedly in talks to executive produce and direct episodes of HBO Max’s The Batman spin-off series focusing on Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, a.k.a. The Penguin. Colin Farrell is reprising his role as the iconic DC Comics villain.

HBO Max gave a straight-to-series order to The Penguin (working title) back in March 2022. Production on the series is expected to begin early next year, with filming set to take place in New York, as reported by Production Weekly.

The team behind The Batman is back

Colin Farrell is serving as an executive producer on The Penguin alongside The Batman director Matt Reeves and producer Dylan Clark. Lauren LeFranc (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) is overseeing The Penguin as its writer and showrunner.

Earlier this year, Colin Farrell opened up about returning to the role of The Penguin, teasing that his series is about six to eight hours long. “I hear that we’re going to be allowed to kind of do an R-rated version, perhaps, which would be nice to explore the violence that could permit, perhaps, and the darkness that could allow us to explore,” said Farrell.

The Batman opened in theaters this past March, earning 770.8 million at the worldwide box office. Matt Reeves is working on a sequel to the DC Films project and currently writing its script alongside Mattson Tomlin.
