For years now, fans have been wanting to see another standalone Hulk movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As you probably already know, the character’s rights currently reside at Universal Studios, so that likely won’t happen anytime soon, but his supporting role in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok is the next best thing we can get for now. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Marvel Studios don’t have big plans for the Jade Giant.
While speaking with Yahoo at the Sundance Film Festival, Mark Ruffalo teased his character’s arc in the rest of Marvel’s Phase 3 movies and confirmed that he will appear in both parts of Avengers: Infinity War. Here’s what he had to say:
The character last appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which was also Joss Whedon’s final contribution to the universe. While we didn’t know that until quite recently, it appears that the director actually told the cast that he was planning to leave after his second Avengers movie. Naturally, Ruffalo was rather disappointed, since Whedon was the one who brought him into the world of Marvel, but he’s very much looking forward to working with the Russo Brothers:
Meanwhile, Thor: Ragnarok starts shooting this Summer in Australia, so director Taika Waititi and the rest of the crew behind the movie are currently hard at work on pre-production. Thankfully, Ruffalo provided an update on the current status of the threequel and from the sound of things, they’re still in very early stages.
