Marvel Confirms Four ‘Luke Cage’ Cast Additions; New Character Details Revealed

Following today’s first images from the set of the production, Marvel has confirmed today that Misty Knight, Shades, Rafael Scarfe and Claire Temple will be joining the characters appearing on the upcoming Netflix series ‘Luke Cage’.

Among confirming that Simone Missick will be playing Misty Knight, a Harlem police detective who is determined to learn the truth about Luke Cage, some new details were revealed by Executive Prodcuer/Marvel’s Head Of Television Leph Loeb.
Looks like we’re going to be meeting the character pre-bionic arm from the sounds of it. Loeb stated:

We know fans have waited years to see Misty Knight brought to life, so we had to find the right actress. Simone blew us away with her performance as the strong-willed cop on a mission.

Next up, Theo Rossi will play Shades, a ruthless criminal with ties to Cage’s mysterious past. Showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker commented:

Theo Rossi is a swiss army knife—no matter what you bring to him, he has a tool for it—and he’s playfully unpredictable. His Shades will be someone you hate to love.

Frank Whaley has been casteen confirmed to play Rafael Scarfe, who is described as a hard-nosed NYPD detective who partners up with Misty Knight in her investigation into Luke Cage. On the character, Coker said the following:

Frank Whaley has a wiry intensity that he’s imbued in Det. Rafael Scarfe. He’s a great counterpart to Misty, and a wonderful actor.

And last, but of course not least, there’s Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple. We of course met this charcter in the season one of ‘Daredevil’ and it seems that Temple will be the “glue” that connects the ‘Defenders’ characters together. It seems that her friendship with Cage will majorly impact both characters’ lives. Said Loeb:

We are thrilled to have Rosario in another one of our television series. Her performance as Claire Temple in Marvel’s Daredevil was astonishing and we can’t wait to see her shine in Marvel’s Luke Cage.
