Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige On The MCU’s Future Beyond Phase 3

avengers-infinity-war-promo Kevin FeigeAvengers: Infinity War and the untitled sequel are being billed as the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe story and while fans are anticipating the showdown between our favorite heroes and the Mad Titan Thanos, many are already curious to see what the future holds for the MCU after phase three comes to an end. In an interview with Uproxx, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige discussed plans for the MCU once the next two Avengers films conclude the initial 22-film story.

Kevin Feige reiterated his previous statements on how the studio is focused on the current slate of projects:

“Of course we will go places beyond that. And, of course, we have ideas of where we go beyond that. But, really, it is all good stories. And as the series finale of Star Trek: The Next Generation said, ‘All good things must come to an end.’ And part of what makes them special, there is a finite quality to the best of fictional stories through history. And we wanted to do that at the end of our first three phases and 22 movies. How we start anew and wherever we go beyond that is a story for another time. This is really about 10 years on, bringing something to a head in a satisfying and unexpected way.”

In the fall of 2014, Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios announced nearly all of the phase 3 titles through to the fourth Avengers film, which is due to be released in 2019. With many of those films having already been released now and several others just a few months away from hitting theaters, a number of fans have been wondering when another announcement event might be held. Kevin Feige responded to those who feel a new title announcement is overdue:

“I think it is. I also think that was a particular event to really announce and showcase Phase Three and I guess set up the expectation of doing something like that every few years. But the notion we are sitting here talking and we have, what, six films yet to be released? That’s more than almost any other single production entity in town has on the docket. That should be enough.”

When you consider how fast time has passed since Iron Man kick-off the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the conclusion of phase 3 and subsequent unveiling of the studio’s new plans will be here sooner than you can imagine. So, for the time being, I am content to enjoy the anticipation and viewing of the currently announced projects before it all comes to an end.
