While considering the box office and critical success of Marvel’s Black Panther, a return to the land of Wakanda seems inevitable at this point. While movie audiences have grown accustomed to T’Challa’s (Chadwick Boseman) role of the Wakandian protector since 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, it appears as though Marvel Studios is open to having other versions of Black Panther appear in a future Marvel film as in the comics T’Challa wasn’t the only character to don the iconic vibranium powered suit.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Black Panther producer Nate Moore opened up about the possibility of another worthy Wakandian adopting the mantle in a possible follow-up to the 2018 blockbuster and how they don’t want to limit themselves in continuing the adventures of T’Challa and his allies:
“One thing I like to tell Ryan is, the Black Panther is a mantle as much as it is a person, so we’re not restricted by anything, because the truth is, there’s a lot of different ways to go back to Wakanda and have a good time and continue to explore the themes that made the first film so resonant.”
Given the praise that Black Panther star Letitia Wright has received from both critics and moviegoers alike in her role as T’Challa’s sister and all around technical genius Shuri, it wouldn’t be surprising if the storyline for a future film decided to follow suit with the comics and see the character eventually take on the title of Black Panther.
