With new instalments in any franchise comes a deluge of merchandise and tie-in media, and Marvel is certainly no exception, with The Avengers and now, it seems, Guardians of the Galaxy.
Last week Marvel announced their Avengers project in association with Eidos Montreal, a subsidiary of Square Enix, and Crystal Dynamics. We can expect to see multiple games emerge from this partnership, with many options on the table in regards to what characters, universes and stories the companies can choose to feature. Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics are currently hard at work on the initial game, which will centre on the Avengers. It’s likely that it will launch in 2018.
Gaming website Eurogamer reported that Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics are following up this highly-anticipated game with another one linked to the lucrative franchise: Guardians of the Galaxy. This is in the middle of also shaping the next Tomb Raider game, so it looks like coffee breaks will be kept brief for the next few years over at the developers’ headquarters.
Kotaku Editor Jason Schreier confirmed reports of a Guardians game on his twitter:

Square Enix responded to Eurogamer’s request for a comment on the matter, and they spoke relatively vaguely about their future endeavours with Marvel. They also, however, reassured fans that their game Deus Ex was not being abandoned completely, a fear many had upon hearing Marvel’s announcement:
“While we are still working on expanding the Deus Ex Universe, along with creating new content and updates for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, we’re also devoting our talents towards working with Crystal Dynamics and Marvel on The Avengers project.”
At the very least, Marvel fans will be able to look forward to two new games exploring the most popular heroes they have to offer.
