Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. may have gotten the jump on Marvel’s Inhumans story line, but fans are still eagerly anticipating the big screen adaptation scheduled for July 12, 2019. As one of the first films to follow the conclusion of the two-part Avengers: Infinity War series, Inhumans will help usher in a new era within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The only problem is that absolutely nothing is known about the film.
As things stand now, Inhumans is without a cast, writer or director, which obviously raises more questions than answers. Will the film borrow elements from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or even go so far as to have direct cross overs? Will it be an entirely new story? We don’t know; the only thing we do know is that Vin Diesel really wants to be in it.
Diesel has openly discussed the project since last year and even gave a faux audition to IGN for the role of Black Bolt. It’s not a surprise that Diesel, who voiced the fan favorite character of Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, would want to get involved with another Marvel project. What is surprising, however, is the apparent lack of progress the two sides have made on a deal.
MTV News’ Josh Horowitz asked Diesel if the Inhumans role was a “if it happens, it happens” situation, to which the Fast & Furious star replied:
Well, now it makes a bit more sense why fans haven’t gotten a single iota of information on Inhumans. If Vin Diesel can’t even squeeze some details out of Marvel, what hope do the rest of us have?
It’s not as if Feige and Marvel Studios need to have a completed script for a film still four years away. However, it sounds as if they won’t be able to nail down their lead in Diesel until they can at least pitch him on a concrete story. Who knows when that will happen?
