Matt Damon On Another ‘Bourne’ Sequel: “Not Right Now”

This past summer saw the return of Matt Damon as Jason Bourne in the fifth installment of the Bourne franchise after nearly a decade. Though the film received mixed-reviews, it was a box-office success, having grossed a worldwide total of $405 million against a production budget of $120 million. Does the financial success of Jason Bourne mean another sequel will be on the way? Speaking at a producers round table hosted by The Hollywood Reporter, actor Matt Damon weighed in on the prospects of a sixth installment in the Bourne series.

“Not right now,” Damon replied when asked if another Bourne film was in development. “Those things are a massive undertaking. We started shooting that in September and finished in March. It’s just big, with a massive second unit.”

Matt Damon did, however, share a story about how executive producer Frank Marshall lent his directing talent to the first film, The Bourne Identity.

“There’s a lot of crossover, though, in a lot of the jobs,” Damon said. “We [Damon and Marshall] have done a bunch of movies together, but we were way behind schedule on The Bourne Identity. And Frank’s a director, so he grabbed a camera and started shooting.”

So, for the time being, it sounds as though fans of the Bourne franchise may have to wait a while before we hear any word on a sixth film. Are you disappointed? Do you think the world needs another Bourne film? Share your thoughts below!

Matt Damon returns to his most iconic role in Jason Bourne. Paul Greengrass, the director of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, once again joins Damon for the next chapter of Universal Pictures’ Bourne franchise, which finds the CIA’s most lethal former operative drawn out of the shadows.

Jason Bourne will be available on Digital HD on November 15, 2016 and on Blu-ray/DVD December 6, 2016.
