While out doing promotion for The MartianNew York Daily News had a chat with Matt Damon and questioned the actor if he had any interest in possibly playing a superhero on the big-screen. Damon seems like he is somewhat toying around with the notion himself and commented on his long-time collaborator Ben Affleck’s decision to sign on to play the DCEU’s Batman.

“I think he approached it the right way, which is, ‘Can I make a great superhero movie?’ rather than, ‘Do I want to play a superhero?’ I’d consider it if the right thing came along.”

While he does seem open to the idea with the right character, there is one for sure that he’d sign on to play. However, there is a bit of a catch to it and he also revealed why he’d backed out of playing a superhero last time around.

“For us it was always ‘Daredevil’ — that’s the comic we read when we were kids. But when that one came along (in 2003) I chickened out, because I couldn’t tell. I hadn’t seen the director (Mark Steven Johnson’s) work and I didn’t know. So I just said, ‘No.’ Ben was like, ‘I gotta do it.’ And the movie ended up doing very well, even though I don’t think Ben was ultimately very proud of it.”

What would it take for Damon to sign on for that role? Well, the project would require a certain director. Damon continued:

“If Chris Nolan came up to me and said, ‘I want to do Daredevil,’ I would be in.”

Currently that seems very unlikely to ever happen due to numerous factors. But even if we never see him suit up in a superhero film, as he shifts his future priorities to the directing side of things. Damon said that he would definitely be into directing an upcoming superhero film. “Just putting that out there,” he said, laughing.
