Back at the TCA Winter Press Tour, there were a lot of updates on Matt Nix’s (Burn Notice) mystery X-Men television series, including the report that FOX was getting closer to granting the project a pilot order. The wait is officially over as it was announced today that the series has officially been given a pilot order.
The untitled project marks as one of many new Marvel TV shows that are currently in the works as Hulu has The Runaways, Freeform with Cloak & Dagger which is set to premiere in 2018. ABC also has The Inhumans which is set to premiere on September 26. Netflix have their Marvel properties with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher. ABC Studios also has a New Warriors related series in development as a comedy featuring Squirrel Girl.
There is also the mystery Marvel show from John Ridley that he has been working on for ABC for the past few years. While not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, FX has their X-Men related TV series Legion starring Dan Stevens as David Haller.
“The Untitled Fox Marvel Project will focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive. The series will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television, with 20th Century Fox handling physical production.”
Nix’s creative team consists of X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner, director Bryan Singer, X-Men screenwriter, Simon Kinberg, Jim Chory and Marvel TV President Jeph Loeb that will all be serving as Executive Producers on the project. These people are also involved with the FX series, Legion.
