Kingsman: The Golden Circle, director Matthew Vaughn’s sequel to his surprise 2014 hit Kingsman: The Secret Service, hits theaters this Friday, making this the first time Vaughn has returned for a sequel to one of his films. He did not return for X-Men: Days of Future Past or Kick-Ass 2, but there was something about the Kingsman world that drew him back in. Now, people already want to know if he will be returning for a third film in the franchise.
During a recent interview with Cinema Blend, Vaughn revealed that he does want to see Kingsman become a trilogy and that he’s even open to the idea of spinoffs. Here is what the director stated:
“I think there’s a story in my head which will be finished by the end of the next one. And then after that then, of course, there could be Statesman movies, there could be spinoff character films. The universe could continue with new agents. Or, you know, Colin (Firth) could become Arthur (…) or new characters could come in. Or new kids get trained. There’s so many options, but I also think it’s better not to be too greedy.”
Directed by Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class, Kick Ass), Kingsman: The Golden Circle stars Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Julianne Moore, Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, Halle Berry and Pedro Pascal.
Kingsman: The Secret Service introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In Kingsman: The Golden Circle, our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…
Kingsman: The Golden Circle hits theaters September 22, 2017. You can read my review of the film here.
