‘Men In Black’ Spin-Off Locks Summer 2019 Release Date

Men in Black Spin-offDeadline reports the galaxy defenders are back as Sony Pictures has put a Men in Black spin-off on the fast track, slating the film to hit theaters on May 17, 2019.

Iron Man and Transformers: The Last Knight writers Matt Holloway and Art Marcum have been tapped to pen the script. While original stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are not signed on to return for the spin-off, the film will take place in the same cinematic universe as the Men in Black trilogy from director Barry Sonnenfeld.

The spin-off will introduce a new set of protagonists as they chase villains on more of a global scale compared to the original trilogy. According to the trade, the studio is looking to do what Jurassic World did when it rebooted and expanded upon the original Jurassic Park franchise.

David Beaubaire is overseeing the production of the Men in Black spin-off for Sony. The film will be produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald with Steven Spielberg serving as executive producer. Parkes released a statement to the trade, sharing his excitement over the script from Holloway and Marcum:

“It’s so rare to get to the end of the script and know you’re holding a movie in your hands – but Art and Matt have written a spinoff that somehow is true to the core of the MIB world, and yet expands the franchise to a fresh new place.”

No director has been set but the search is on and the producers expect one will be attached shortly. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the development of the Men in Black spin-off as we learn it.

I have a feeling this will not do well. Jurassic World succeeded on popularity/continuation of the original story. To me Men In Black was much more popular due to it have Jones and Smith, much less about the story. I may be wrong though
