Nafessa Williams & China Anne McClain Join ‘Black Lightning’

Black Lightning DaughtersBlack Lightning recently landed Cress Williams as the titular hero and now, his two daughters have been cast as Nafessa Williams (Code Black) and China Anne McClain (House of Payne) have landed the roles of Jennifer Pierce and Anissa Pierce respectively. Here is how Warner Bros. TV and The CW describes their roles on the show.

“Anissa Pierce — passionate and quick-witted, Jefferson’s twenty-something daughter balances the demands of medical school with her job teaching part-time at her father’s school.

“Jennifer Piere, Jefferson’s younger daughter, the teenage an independent, outspoken scholar-athlete with a wild streak of her own.”

Fans of the Black Lightning mythology will recognize Jennifer and Anissa as the female heroes Lightning and Thunder respectively. The other role that is currently being cast is Jefferson’s ex-wife Lynn who will be a series regular one the series.

FOX recently decided to pass on the Black Lightning pilot from Being Mary Jane’s Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil as well as DCTV producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, The CW swooped in and saved it. The network brought it over by giving it a pilot order as The CW’s potentially fifth DC TV show should it be picked up to the series. Salim Akil is set to direct the first episode of the series.

“Black Lightning centers on Jefferson Pierce. He made his choice: He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hellbent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.”
