Natalie Portman on becoming the Mighty Thor and why she was absent in Thor: Ragnarok.

While Thor: Love and Thunder is still over two years from arriving in theaters, Natalie Portman discussed her role in the film as Jane Foster becomes Mighty Thor opposite Chris Hemsworth’s Asgardian Avenger. Natalie Portman addressed her excitement when Marvel Studios approached her about their idea for the next Thor film, and it seems as if she was immediately onboard after the pitch.

When speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Natalie Portman explained that it was Jane Foster becoming Mighty Thor that swayed her decision, admitting that she was very excited about the how the role had developed by adapting the recent comics written by Jason Aaron.

“They came to me with the idea and said, ‘We have this idea for you that was a storyline in some of the comics where Jane becomes Lady Thor,’ and I was like, ‘This is very exciting!’

But when asked about else she was excited about in returning to the films, Natalie Portman explained that it was the rest of the cast that make them a joy to work on, especially Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth. The actress also delivered a surprisingly easy answer as to why Jane Foster was absent during Thor: Ragnarok. Read Natalie Portman’s comments below.

“Obviously, I wasn’t written into Thor: Ragnarok because of where it took place. It wasn’t really on Earth, and my character is on Earth. I love Tessa [Thompson] and Chris [Hemsworth] so much, so it’s exciting to work with them again. And I’m very excited to wield the hammer”

Would you have wanted to see Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster in Thor: Ragnarok? Or are you more excited to see her as Thor herself? Let us know in the comments!

Natalie Portman was reportedly disappointed with how Marvel Studios dismissed original The Dark World director Patty Jenkins’ vision for that film before her exit from the project over creative differences. This is believed to have played a part in Natalie Portman leaving the franchise altogether, but her brief role through archival footage in Avengers: Endgame kept her stamp within the Marvel Cinematic Universe as relevant to the ongoing plot, and now that she can step in the role of the new Thor she has an opportunity to have a stronger heroic presence compared to her previous portrayal as Chris Hemsworth’s love interest.

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman. The film will be based on Jason Aaron’s Mighty Thor comic book run, with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster set to become the new Thor.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news on Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and the future of the MCU!
