NBC’s Powerless, a workplace comedy set in the DC Comics universe, was poised to be one of the fewlight-hearted and comical alternatives to the otherwise predominantly grim DC based projects. However, when the series debuted to low ratings and continued to lose viewers each week, even fans of the show began to lose hope that a second season would be ordered. In an interview with Deadline, President of NBC Entertainment Jennifer Salke discussed the chances of Powerless being renewed in spite of such weak numbers.
Salke expressed support for the series but explained a decision on the show’s future has not been made.
“[Powerless] did not open to the most exciting numbers which was OK because we thought it would be viewed by a digital audience really strongly. We’re still looking at it. I just wish it was performing better, but we haven’t made decisions. We’re going to continue to air it and we’re behind it.”
The series premiered to less than stellar reviews as well and enthusiasm for the series has only diminished. In spite of a few strengths, perhaps the question regarding the show’s future is not as uncertain as it appears.
Powerless airs on Thursday at 8:30 pm ET on NBC. Be sure to check back with Heroic Hollywood after each episode for weekly reviews!
