Netflix is expanding their deal with DreamWorks Animation in more ways than one. Not only will Netflix have extended streaming rights to animated series such as Dragons: Race to the Edge (a spinoff of How to Train Your Dragon), but DreamWorks will also be creating a few new shows for Netflix to stream on the site. As of now, two of these shows are set to premiere at some point during the course of 2016.
The first is a fantasy series called Trollhunters, created by Guillermo del Toro. The second is a reboot/remake of Voltron: Defender of the Universe. While the deal with DreamWorks is meant to produce entertainment primarily for children, each of these shows will likely have some appeal for parents and other adults as well. The first will draw in audiences through the strength of the filmmaker attached, and Voltron will rope people in with the sheer power of 1980s nostalgia.
