Netflix Quadruples ‘Riverdale’ Premiere Viewership From Teenage Demographic

RiverdaleThanks to Netflix putting the show’s entire first season up for streamers, Riverdale had a huge boost in viewership with the Season 2 premiere. But what’s especially interesting is that the number of teenage viewers skyrocketed.

The Hollywood Reporter has just shared some viewership data about the recent premiere of Riverdale, and it paints a rosy picture for the quiet little town. Following the decision to add the show to Netflix’s library during the Summer, the show experienced its best ratings ever – and a big factor in that has to do with the fact that the number of teenagers watching the show now compared to Season 1 has shot up by a mind-blowing 400%. In addition, viewership in general has risen 60% since the series premiere.

Representatives of The CW have emphasized that they believe this level of success owes itself to a successful marketing campaign after the show broke out on streaming. Ads for the new season of Riverdale emphasized that viewers could only catch new episodes on The CW in order to make sure that general audiences didn’t confuse the Archie Comics adaptation wasn’t Netflix original programming. Judging by these promising numbers – 2.34 million viewers before adding DVR viewership to the mix – they succeeded.

Riverdale airs on Wednesday nights on The CW. The show stars KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Marisol Nichols as Hermione Lodge, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy, Mädchen Amick as Alice Cooper, Luke Perry as Fred Andrews, Casey Cott as Kevin Keller, Mark Consuelos as Hiram Lodge, and Skeet Ulrich as FP Jones.
