Paramount Pictures has released a brand new teaser as well as an anime inspired poster for the upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic manga Ghost in the Shell. The new teaser features the quote “They didn’t save your life. They stole it.” which was a line spoken by the film’s villain, Kuze (Michael Pitt), in the official trailer. The studio unveiled the new poster on Twitter with the tweet: “Our future is in her hands. See Scarlett Johansson in the new #GhostInTheShell poster.”
While the casting of Scarlett Johannson was met with a backlash over the continued trend of whitewashing in Hollywood, the director of the original anime, Mamoru Oshii, praised Johannson for her portrayal of the Major in a featurette that was previously released.
Diversity is no doubt one of the biggest issues in the industry but it is also important to reserve judgment until we have all seen the film. As for the film itself, Rupert Sanders looks to have crafted an extraordinary vision that seems fresh and original while remaining faithful to the original anime.

The film also stars Pilou Asbæk, Juliette Binoche, Kaori Momoi, Rila Fukushima, Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara, and Tuwanda Manyimo.
