2017 is finally upon us! After a shocker of a year with 2016, here’s hoping 2017’s biggest movies are also some of the best. Thanks to a special article from USA Today, we have some badass new images from some of 2017’s biggest blockbusters, including Beauty & The Beast, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Alien: Covenant and Transformers: The Last Knight. One of the most exciting prospects of 2017 comes with the reinterpretation of one of Disney’s most beloved stories. Beauty & The Beast is set to hit theatres everywhere on March 17, directed by Bill Condon. The film has an incredible cast, led by Harry Potter star Emma Watson and Legion‘s Dan Stevens. Watson will don the iconic yellow dress as Belle, with Stevens portraying the Beast. In addition to the new image thanks to USA Today, Stevens revealed just how he became the Beast!
Dan Stevens on how he became The Beast:
“[on CGI] It’s never been used for a romantic lead before. Getting to play this big, quite silly character at times who’s incredibly misanthropic, but at the same time having this incredibly bright woman opposite me firing these ideas around, fascinated me. That story has existed on millions of bookshelves and being part of that bedtime-story moment can be really magical.”
2017 will also mark the return to the Alien franchise for director Ridley Scott. The latest film, Alien: Covenant will follow the story he told in 2012’s Prometheus. Covenant is another prequel, and will again star X-Men‘s Michael Fassbender as the android, David. The film’s leading lady, Katherine Waterson (Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them) went on to discuss the film and its similarities to the original Alien below:
“You don’t really know what you’re made of until you’re tested. [On her character and Ripley’s similarities] They are both able to somehow think clearly in really shocking, unimaginable scenarios. It’s fun to play someone who can thrive in that chaos. I’m very squeamish. I’ve seen these movies many times, but I feel like I’ve barely seen any of the alien scenes because my eyes are usually covered.”
Another franchise that will see an iconic return is Disney’s Pirates. Since 2011’s On Stranger Tides, Johnny Depp’s career has gone through a few ups and downs. The actor’s films are making less, and less money, and his star-power is declining significantly. However, Disney, and the producer Jerry Bruckheimer, are hoping the latest adventure has the right stuff to make Depp a household name once more. Depp is rejoined by Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, as well as Javier Bardem, who makes his franchise debut as Captain Salazar. Bruckheimer went on to discuss the latest film below:
“It’s really edgy, still has the humour, but (offers) some real tension. [On Depp’s Jack Sparrow] He’s still the star of the movie.”
I don’t know about you, but I am so excited for Michael Bay’s next Transformers flick. The franchise has become one of my guilty pleasures, and after the horrendously entertaining Age Of Extinction, how can one not look forward to The Last Knight? The movie’s batshit-crazy trailer hit a few months ago, and since then, we have seen a steady increase in images and clips. However, in this latest image, we can see Mark Wahlberg and Laura Haddock search, what looks to be, the inside of some Cybotronian ship; could this be Unicron? The movie will deal with time travel, going from King Arthur’s time all the way to World War II. Here’s hoping this is the Days of Future Past movie the Transformers franchise always needed. Wahlberg went on to discuss the film below:
“It’s really smart and different. “It’s not as cool as it would be had I been 25. At 45, it’s all pretty strenuous, but I really like that Michael gives me freedom to make the character my own, improvising and bring a lot of humor and elevate the emotion.”
So, what do you guys think? Are you all excited for 2017’s list of blockbusters? I simply cannot wait! Beauty & The Beast hits theatres everywhere on March 17, while Alien: Covenant hits on May 19. Pirates sails into theatres on May 26, with Transformers: The Last Knight arriving on June 23.
