Perhaps the X-Men universe film that I’m most looking forward to now is X-Men: New Mutants. Based on the Marvel Comics series from the ’80s, the film is said to be more horror-centric, with the rumored plot suggesting that it’s about a group of young mutants trying to escape a secret facility where they are being held against their will. As of this writing, Magik, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Moonstar and Cannonball are confirmed to be appearing in the film, but it appears as if other new mutants might soon be joining them.
A recent casting call reported by Omega Underground seems to point to Warlock joining the film, and based on the qualifications the production is looking for, it seems as if the character will be brought to life using motion capture, presumably with a more established actor providing the voice later on. This makes complete sense as this is the same technique used for Colossus in Deadpool.
Here is what the casting call says the project is looking for:
SKINNY MAN – Male, 20’s – 60’s; Caucasian, must be over 6’9″, extremely tall and skinny. We are looking for someone who is very good with movement. This is a featured principal role with no dialogue.
In the comics, Warlock was introduced in New Mutants #18, which director Josh Boone has cited as a major influence on the film. Warlock is a “techno-organic” lifeform with the ability to shift his body into different configurations. Hailing from an alien world known as Technarchy where children of this race had to prove their right to exist by fighting their parents to the death, he was deemed a a mutant becauause he refused to fight his father, Technarchy’s ruler Magus. With recent casting rumors possibly pointing to Lilandra of the Shi’ar Empire appearing in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, it seems as if the X-Universe is about to get a whole lot more cosmic.
X-Men: New Mutants will be directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in our Stars) and will star Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Henry Zaga as Sunspot and Blu Hunt as Moonstar. Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton is in talks to play Cannonball, Rosario Dawson is in talks to play Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a mutant doctor who will be a mentor to the young mutants, and a recent casting call seems to point to Xi’an Coy Manh, aka Karma, appearing in the film as well.
X-Men: New Mutants is currently slated to hit theaters on April 13, 2018.

20th Century Fox has been successful making superhero films for the last 17 years with the highly-popular X-Men franchise. Several films in this series have been regarded as some of the best superhero films of all time. The quality of those films have set them apart from what is being done over in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the original superhero cinematic universe, it is easy to compare them to the MCU.
