The New ‘Power Rangers’ Film Will Hit Theatres In China

Review: The 'Power Rangers' Reboot Is Harmless Fun

Go Go, Power Rangers! Yes, the rumours are true; the latest Power Rangers movie will hit Chinese theatres. The movie is one of the few American-blockbusters to open in the – rather huge – country. American films such as Transformers: Age of Extinction and Pacific Rim have done extremely well in the country, and Lionsgate believe Power Rangers has a chance of doing the same. The film has earned $67 million worldwide, so far, but the positive word-of-mouth may boost the movie’s second weekend box office. Of course, we will have to wait until Monday to work it all out.

According to Power Rangers NOW!, the film will hit theatres – in China – on April. No specific date has been mentioned. Pacific Rim went on to earn $111 million in China alone. Last year’s Warcraft – which only made $47 million in the United States – earned over $220 million in China; representing more than half of the movie’s worldwide box office. So, put lightly, this is a huge win for Power Rangers and Lionsgate.

If the movie replicates that, we could be looking at a sequel announcement within the coming months. It is also worth noting that the film has yet to open in Japan and South Korea, two countries who adore the brand. The movie is set to hit Japanese theatres on July 15, and April 20 in South Korea.

So, what do you guys think? Are you excited for Power Rangers – potential – success? The movie has received pretty mix reception from critics, as it is sitting at 48% on Rotten Tomatoes. You can check out the only review that matters – ours – by clicking here.
