Who Could Be The Next James Bond After Daniel Craig?

007 james bondJames Bond is the most iconic character in film and debate can rage for eternity about which illustrious actor has impressed the most in the role. Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton and even George Lazenby all have their admirers, while current incumbent Daniel Craig has taken the role in an intriguing direction and won legions of devotees. He has signed up for a fifth film, but that could well be his last and speculation abounds regarding which actor will take up the mantle post-Craig. Here are the leading contenders, along with the odds on them landing the role:

Jack Huston

Jack Huston

Huston had enjoyed a steady career taking in supporting roles in the likes of American Hustle and Broadwalk Empire, but got his big break playing the titular Ben Hur in 2016. That catapulted the 34-year-old Englishman to superstardom and made him the favourite with most bookmakers to be named the next James Bond. Bovada will offer odds for prop bets like this one, review them before placing a wager and you will still find pretty decent odds on him. A role in the upcoming Martin Scorcese crime drama The Irishman, alongside the likes of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, will add to his fame.

Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy

The 4/1 second favourite needs no introduction as Hardy has emerged as one of the world’s most famous stars in recent years. He is often seen with a hulking, bear-like frame that made him such a terrifying prospect in films like The Dark Knight Rises, Warrior, Legend, Lawless and The Revenant. But he can do suave, shaved and polished just as well and has proved it many times throughout his long and distinguished career. He is the sort of genuine A Lister that would get fans excited and would surely be a shoo-in if he fancied the role. At 4/1 he looks a good option.

Aidan Turner

Aidan Turner

The Irishman dazzled TV audiences with the lead role in hit BBC series Poldark, where he became known for getting housewives hot under the collar. He translated his charm onto the big screen with his depiction of the dwarf Kili in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy, and his career would step up another gear if he landed the much-coveted James Bond role.

Idris Elba

Idris Elba

Elba would be an enormously popular choice as he has barely put a foot wrong during a stellar career. Like Hardy, he brings great physical presence and gruff charm to any role he takes, but can be equally sophisticated and eloquent. There has never been a black James Bond before, but franchise bosses have demanded a more diverse cast and they switched to a black Moneypenny, hot on the heels of a female M, so there is hope that the white males may no longer dominate. Elba has long been touted for the role and has even described himself as the most famous Bond actor in the world “and I’ve not even played the role”, so it could only be a matter of time before he takes it on.

The Rest

Another slightly left-field choice would be “any female”, which is the 12/1 seventh favourite in this market. That really would be a break from tradition, but you never know. Before that we have James Norton, star of TV drama War and Peace, and then 10/1 shot Tom Hiddleston. The latter looks a good option at that price as he is in a similar league to Hardy and Elba in terms of global fame and put in a great turn in recent drama The Night Manager, which could be seen as a great audition tape for the Bond role. Longer shots include Michael Fassbender (12/1), Henry Cavill (20/1) and Damian Lewis (40/1). Wilder options include Danny Dyer and Daniel Radcliffe (both 200/1).

Tom Hiddleston is my choice to be the next James Bond. He would bring back the classic Bond. He could be very suave and self deprecating which works well for Bond in my opinion.
